Events
The Friends of the Richmond Mounted Squad (FRMS) actively raise money by hosting various events throughout the year. These events have grown over time and we would appreciate your active participation to ensure that these events continue to be so successful. If you would like to help, please send us a contact note, you will find it so rewarding!
The Richmond Ride
One of the most delightful and unique ways to see Richmond's historic "Fan District" and their beautiful gardens. This is Virginia's most unique trail ride and is an annual fund raiser for the Friends of the Richmond Mounted Squad. This event raises funds through entry participation fees, drawing attention to this valuable and highly capable law enforcement unit and provides a fun opportunity for local horsemen to ride Richmond's streets as horsemen did on a regular basis in previous centuries. One of several "Strawberry Hill Race Week Events," the Ride was the prototype for the Race Week concept, a number of events with charitable connections that precede the annual Strawberry Hill Races, which is presented by the State Fair of Virginia.
Friends of the Richmond Mounted Squad Fun and Pleasure Horse Show
For many years this very popular event has been scheduled during the State Fair of Virginia. To accommodate the ever increasing popularity of this multifaceted event will be held at Dorey Park. Pictures and winners from this year's event are now posted in The 2008 Horse Show.
The Blessing of the Animals
The annual Blessing of the Animals takes place at the Morgan Fountain in Shockoe Slip on the second Friday in December. This event especially recognizes working animals as well as companion animals.
